DEM awarded contract by Legal Metrology Services

DEM Machines are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the contract to verify trade approved scales on behalf of Legal Metrology Services.

Such scales would include checkweighers, in-line weighers, weighbridges, bench, platform and retail scales from a variety of capacities ranging from 1kg to 60,000kg.

Weighing equipment used for trade is subject to control by the Legal Metrology Service (LMS) in accordance with the Metrology Acts 1980 to 1998. The regime of control includes approval of new designs of weighing equipment, verification of instruments of an approved design upon installation and following repair or re-calibration (eg. If the seals on a weight indicator or junction box have been broken, loadcells or weight indicators have been replaced or if any weighing equipment failed an inspection it must be re-verified).

Please note that it is an offence to use an unverified measuring instrument for trade use

As DEM Machines Ltd. celebrates its 21st year in business 'Manufacturing Ireland' talks to its founder, Derek McClean, to discuss the company's success story.

DEM Machines Ltd was founded in 1985 by Derek McClean who had previously spent 14 years developing and working on projects for weighing companies. He identified a gap in the market for a weighing system manufacturer concentrating on then new thechnology (Electronic Systems).

Since its foundation the company has amassed an impressive customer list new including some of Ireland's biggest companies such as Intel, Loctite, Kepak, Smurfit Group, AIBP, Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports, the National Lottery, Dublin Port and about 80% of the smaller wholesale meat producers in Ireland along with similar number of Cattle Marts.

"We have already put the planning in place for a new custom built 20,000 sq feet factory in Naas, which will be ready early 2007"
